Continuing character design

More depth needs to be done into my character design project and establish where I’m going with it, I know the type of setting its going to be in just need 2 allocate the main things about the character and create a few synopsis’s of them. Detailing and outlining there purpose, why they are a hero why is he a villain and so on.

Synopsis definition

syn•op•sis (si näp′sis)
Noun pl. synopses -•ses′ (-sēz′)
a statement giving a brief, general review or condensation; summary

There are numerous kinds of animals that can help build the foundation of my designs, incorporated within a jungle/forest atmosphere the words I gathered previously (mammals, invertebrates, birds, small mammals and lizards) are a huge choice and collection of animals I can choose from. Narrowing down the jungle/forest into 2 main topics ground animals and sky animals, my development lead to Mammals and Lizards because I find these types of creatures to be contrasting then can easily obtain a meaning for characters design and manipulating out of the ordinary animals together to create one for example.

 Mammal choice:
  1. Golden lion Tamarin
  2. Squirrel monkey
  3. Jaguar
  4. Giant ant eater
  5. Sumatra rhino

 Lizard choices:
  1. Crowned adamid
  2. Gecko (green eyed)
  3. Water monitor lizard
  4. African lender snouted crocodile
  5. Blue poison dart frog

Mullholland Drive Dir. David Lynch 2001

Mullholland Drive Dir. David Lynch 2001
Absolutely crazy that’s how I some up this film... didn’t except the ending of the movie was completely focused on the outcomes and was disappointed. The weirdness got to me, like most others who have seen Mulholland drive I assume this film confused the hell out of them, much like Blue Velvet which we watched in the 1st year there are questions in the films that have not been answered which relies on your own assumption to what event are accoutred and the reasons be hide them. Besides this excellent camera shots for instances the kissing scene with Betty is at her audition ‘seems so real and part of the actual film’.

1. Betty/Diane is trying to make it in Hollywood and falls in love with Rita.
2. Rita gains some success and distances herself from Diane.
3. Diane, hurt and disappointed by Hollywood and Rita, hires a hitman to kill Rita.
4. Betty/Diane realizes whatshe’s done, and kills herself.
5. The Club Silencio scene is when she understands she's done something evil and her soul is "taken" by the Emcee.(Betty/Diane is already dead at this point, just not aware of it.)
Most of the film is in flashback.

More character designing

From the drawing lesson we received by Justin this one I found very rewarding and learn a lot from it, considering shapes and lines the importance of silhouettes gives an idea of what the character is about other aspect can then be determined by this.

Shape and form

The sketches above show how I experimented with the dynamic of a character changing the size of there head, feet, legs ect, just coming out of my comfort zone when drawing this shows example of other methods of developing a character Exaggerated features are also shown.

Charcter concept

Narrative project ideas 1..

Our group has come together nicely, we have a little schedule outlining when and what time we will meet to discuss ideas and playing around with them as well ‘planning is key’. At the moment the ideas are floating around not having a particular specific one yet.

I wasn’t too sure where to begin with my ideas, because we had certain films to base our ideas around I found it hard to think outside the box, but thinking about memorable moment in the films gave me small outlines and possible gags.

  1. James bond casino royale - Scene where James bond becomes poisoned whilst playing poker and needs to revive himself with a medical kit in his car perhaps he enters the wrong car such as the knight rider car…

  2. Braveheart - William Wallace (Mel Gibson) gives speech about freedom to army, soldiers exchanged with lord of the rings characters.

  3. Wrong script given to wrong cast... can work for mixture of movies.

  4. Rocky - training scene showing elements of montage editing, ending in a wheel chair.

  5. Knight rider car totally opposite (pink, girly)

Many ideas for spoofs have been done in the past so it hard to gather and construct one that hasn’t been created before, noticing from my ideas the ones that work best are 3 and 4. Decided to show the guys in the group the Rocky concept and where happy to contribute there thoughts about it in some ways it works and some ways it doesn’t, I felt if I was to explain this idea it would be hard to get the effect I wanted and so prepared a small animatic.
Rocky storyboard concept

Rocky idea was just a random thought not a lot of logic behind it however something that could possibly...Jus maybe work and turn out to be quite funny.
