week 3

The interim critique has passed and now working on the information i was given about my ideas from Phil , i found the criticism very helpful enabling me to go onto the next steps of my portrait project which was to stick to my design of the mobile phone idea as it was the strongest out of the three shown.
...however i still feel there is something missing from this final idea.
My second idea seems quite strong in the way it has no mouth can be viewed interestingly to the viewer ,i think they would question why has he got no mouth..is he trying to hide something for example his true identity? has he got no emotions? these are the responses i received when i showed it to my friends.
The reason behind this would be that I'm trying conceal and hide my true emotions and then the next question some would ask would be why?
the answer would simply be becaue this is who i am, im trying to hide my true self from the out side world.

This is the image i created of my self using a basic painting technique during week 3 still trying to improve and develop me ideas.

My first week

3D Digital Design - University for the creative arts

My first week at UCA i found to be quite interesting , the beginning i was nervous and a bit scared entering the building not really knowing what to expect on the first day, however i soon realized meeting new people and exploring the area, I'm going to be fine.

I met a few new friends straight away studying the same course as me, everyone seems very polite and helpful dealing with any cncerns you might have, we started the week with a lecture "picturing identities making faces" we were shown images of artists and how these portraits effect the viewer and the meaning of the art works, then later during the day we had a technical workshop using photoshop(which the class wizz through) starting as a beginner learning the tools and also received handouts explain them as well.

The 2nd day we was introduced to illustrator which i wasn't really familiar with so i found this class quite enjoyable learning all these new techniques which i can use when improving some art works, most of the class understood well and had exsperience with this programme which led to the lesson finishing early.

We were introduced to the modeling making workshop during the 3rd day of the week, the induction was to help us make for insance concepts and desgins in 3d if we needed, although we might not even use the workshop the training was an advantage to have, health and saftey rules were explained in the process and how to act around the workshop avioding hazards ect.The workshop advisor discussed all the machines in operation also showing us what not to do,what to do in case of emergency, protected gear was given to us, finshed the training creating our own samples with the machines on a small block of wood.

On the 4th day explored 'perception and meaning' this was in leacture thearthe 2 and recived another essay which was also for other 1st year degree stundents, then allocated groups for seminars and discussion concering the work.

The last day of the week was the day i was most looking forward to the introduction to maya, i have always known the programme is going to be hard to learn however im very keen to learn it, the lesson was a basic breakdown of the tools also what we will be using on maya plus what can be done with maya for example a perfect bouncing ball animation using graphs.Alot of the lesson was abit confusing for me because u must remember were the tools are and locate them when needing them, but i think i will over come this and master the techniques im really looking forward to the tasks that are going to be set on maya during my time at university.

This week has really given me an insight to university life and what to expect when it comes to projects i think there still is alot to learn and undertanding about my course.

Thank you for reading
